Abstract

The article examines the urban planning and architectural strategies of the Hellenistic period, marking the inception of the first state on the territory of ancient Armenia. The Hellenistic period in Armenia dates back from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD. The first capital of Armenia was the former Urartian administrative center of the city of Argishtikhinili – Armavir. The study of Armavir’s citadel fortifications and urban layout has been conducted through comprehensive archaeological excavations. Our research included detailed analysis and measurements of the citadel’s monumental structures. Findings indicate that, despite minor restorations and functional adaptations, the architectural and constructional heritage of the Urartians remained largely intact, enriched by the infusion of distinctive Hellenistic elements.
