Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the coarse wares from the excavation of the Southern Building of the Byzantine Houses Quarter (Archaeological Mission of the University of Macerata – Excavations of the Italian Archaeological School at Athens). It focuses on the finds from SU 1004, interpreted as an 8th century dump. Some considerations will be made primarily on recurrent pottery types, providing the possibility of examining the early Byzantine and Byzantine production of Gortyn more in-depth. The paper, throughout, highlights connections with regional and Mediterranean networks, especially the Eastern ones.
