Abstract

Desert kites are large-scale stone structures usually comprised of two long, low stone rows and of a spacious enclosure attached to them. Small, circular or quadrangular structures are also attached to the exterior side of the enclosure (Figure 7). This structures were first discovered in the deserts of Syria and Jordan by the World War I pilots at the beginning of the 20th century. They were given the name ‘kites’ by L. Rees, who perceived their exteriors as being similar to kites. This name gained wide acceptance among researchers and continues to be used to this day.
