Abstract

The climatic conditions of the Ararat valley are extremely favorable for the development of viticulture. The cities of ancient Armenia located in the Ararat valley (Armavir, Artashat, Vagharshapat) had their own agricultural territories, where viticulture and winemaking were one of the main branches of agriculture. The purpose of this study is to explore some issues related to the winemaking of the ancient cities of the Ararat valley on the basis of written sources and archaeological data.
