About the Journal
About the Journal
The Journal of Oman Studies was established in 1975 and is now published by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman as a Gold Open Access scholarly journal that presents original research in fields of natural and cultural heritage relevant to the Sultanate without chronological restriction, including tangible (archaeology, rock art, inscriptions and writings, sculpture, traditional architecture, etc.) and intangible (language and oral practices, performing arts, rituals and ceremonies, traditional medicine, subsistence practices, traditional handicrafts, etc.) expressions. The journal also publishes research on topics related to Oman’s natural heritage, including landscape, geological, environmental, climatic, botanical, and faunal studies. The journal also invites book reviews in the covered areas. The journal publishes articles and book reviews in English and Arabic.
Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo evaluation by two external blind reviewers who assess the academic originality and scientific quality of the manuscripts, provide comments on the paper, and make recommendations to the editors. Acceptance of a submission is understood to be conditional until the necessary revisions have been made and the editor deems the paper ready for publication. The typical review period is 60 days. The Editorial Board of The Journal of Oman Studies assists the Editor-in-Chief and the Assistant Editor throughout the peer-review process, offering guidance on reviewer selection, acceptance decisions, and manuscript revisions.
Publication Ethics
The Journal of Oman Studies adopts a strict policy of intolerance towards any form of plagiarism. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are rigorously reviewed to ensure they are original works, free from unauthorized or copied content. Author(s) must confirm that their submission is original and has not been previously published or is under consideration by other journals. If plagiarism is detected, the paper will be rejected immediately. When papers are the result of a granted project/research, the author(s) should indicate the source of funding. All copyrights are reserved by the publisher and the journal reserves the right to republish or translate the submission in consultation with the author(s). Materials published in the journal reflect the opinions of their author(s), not necessarily those of the journal’s editorial board, nor do they reflect the official policy of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman.
