Abstract

Bahrain has an extremely rich archaeological heritage from the Hellenistic and late pre-Islamic periods, which is determined by the island’s geographical position in the Gulf at the crossroads between two important world civilizational centres, Mesopotamia and India, near the coast of the Arabian Peninsula, rich in minerals and natural resources. Numismatic material of this period has particular importance, reflecting trade routes and helping to date other material. This paper publishes and examines previously unpublished coins from the Tylos and late pre-Islamic periods, stored in the Bahrain National Museum.
