Abstract

After about five years of survey in al-Ṣalaylī Valley, the first excavation in the so-called ‘Settlement/Workshop’ area took place in November 2022. Despite the well-known Iron Age hut tombs, the area excavated was revealed to be occupied from the early to the middle Islamic period. The relationship between the two phases of settlement of the area with the exploitation/reoccupation of it for the copper-smelting process still remains to be fully understood.
