A selection of metalwork from classical antiquity and the Middle Ages from Cilicia in southern Turkey
Keywords:
metalwork, Cilicia, metal objectsAbstract
This straightforward catalogue presents 110 metal objects of the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods which are curated in the local museums of Cilicia in southern Turkey, from west to the east, from the museums of Alanya, Anamur, Silifke, Mersin, Tarsus and Adana. The main groups of metal objects are weapons, vessels, stamps, hooks, fibulae, steelyard weights, strigiles, mirrors, simpula, figurines, and other implements. Most of these finds are collected by purchase, but as they are well illustrated, they are useful for typology and function.
